| Breaking News | | Wednesday, September 13th, 1961: Long Beach's Costa Stands Out in Shutout "That was one of my best outings," said Roberto Costa. "I was worried a lot in the bullpen. My ball wasn't quite right. Luckily, it can be two different worlds -- the bullpen and the game. Once I stepped on the field, it all fell into place."
It was an impressive start for the Ports hurler. He blanked the Senators 1-0 on a strong 6-hitter while ringing up 7 strikeouts and doling out no walks.
In 1961 Costa has a 7-6 record with a 3.44 ERA. | | Saturday, August 12th, 1961: Amezcua Spins Shutout Against Senators In a sharp 3-hit performance, Keith Amezcua tossed the San Francisco Seals to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Sacramento Senators, fanning 9 and walking 3.
"That's as good a stuff as I've seen in a long time," the Sacramento manager said in his postgame interview.
In 1961 Amezcua has compiled a 17-9 mark with a 3.19 ERA. | | Friday, August 11th, 1961: Webb Hits Cycle Against Sacramento Mason Webb produced one of the rarest feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Sacramento Senators in the San Francisco 10-0 win. Afterward, Webb acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but he was more interested in helping the Seals just win some ballgames.
At the postgame press conference, he said, "Maybe one day I'll look back on this day with more meaning, but right now I just want to come out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball, get a few hits, and help my club win another game."
On his record-setting day, he went 4-5 and got a spot in the league record books. Maybe one day way down the road he will get out the record book and reminisce about his extra special day in baseball.
M. Webb grounded out in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, tripled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off B. Bevins in the 8th.
In 1961 Webb is currently batting .282 with 9 home runs and 55 RBIs. In 97 games he has reached base at a .309 rate and scored 52 runs to date. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Harry Frink | fractured elbow | 3 months | Not on DL | | LF Dave Kirby | fractured knee | 3 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 38-106, .264 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 56.0 GB | | Record at home | 23-49, .319 PCT | | Record on the road | 15-57, .208 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-4, .333 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 11-24, .314 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-36, .182 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 30-70, .300 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 1-9, .100 PCT | | Record in April | 4-10, .286 PCT | | Record in May | 8-20, .286 PCT | | Record in June | 7-20, .259 PCT | | Record in July | 6-19, .240 PCT | | Record in August | 10-17, .370 PCT | | Record in September | 3-20, .130 PCT |
