Monday, June 1st, 1964: CL Premier Player Picked
It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Enrique Fabián, the San Bernardino Stallions 22-year-old second baseman, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for Pacific Coast League Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 12 hits in 23 at-bats, compiling a .522 average with 1 home run and 2 RBIs.

So far this season Fabián is batting .298 with 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He has 42 hits in 141 at-bats, 26 walks and a .407 OBP. Fabián has played in 47 games.
Sunday, May 31st, 1964: Stallions Shut out by Kopecky
"That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Seals manager told reporters after today's game.

The Stallions ran into a buzzsaw as Kevin Kopecky cut them down to size 5-0 with a 3-hit shutout.

His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."

In the complete game whitewash the San Francisco hurler doled out 3 walks and registered 9 strikeouts.

In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Kevin goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."

Kopecky also got some praise from the San Bernardino manager.

"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."

In 11 starts this season Kopecky has recorded a 7-2 record and a 2.51 ERA.
