Wednesday, October 4th, 1961: Zhang Tops Best Batter List
Tse-tung Zhang of Casa Grande was a smashing success this year, winning the Outstanding Hitter Award in the Pacific A.

He rattled fences and pitchers as he banged out a .345 average, logging 151 hits, 16 home runs, 72 RBIs and scoring 84 runs.

This weekend Zhang will be honored by the SION Baseball Writers Association at its annual awards dinner.
Wednesday, October 4th, 1961: Sixto Ayala Captures PA Outstanding Hitter Award
His teammates, fans, peers and even the voters all agreed that Sixto Ayala was worthy of the 1961 Pioneer A Outstanding Hitter Award.

The Helena catcher was a bonafide batting machine as he racked up a .343 average, 146 hits, 27 doubles, 4 triples, 11 home runs, 65 RBIs, 88 runs, 54 walks and a .416 OBP.

The annual SBWA awards dinner is this weekend. All of the major award winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.
Tuesday, October 3rd, 1961: Casa Grande Pitcher Racks Up Outstanding Pitcher Award
In 1961, the top pitcher in the Pacific A was Afalku Gurnah.
The Casa Grande hurler will receive the Outstanding Pitcher Award.

In a standout year he went 25-10 in 51 starts with 241 strikeouts in 365.2 innings and an impressive 2.19 ERA.

The SBWA will present his trophy to Gurnah at the group's annual awards dinner this weekend.
