BSBL Double A 12-01-1961 Home | | | Breaking News |  | Thursday, October 5th, 1961: #1 Batter Named by Pacific AA Pretty much all season long Leonard Lindsay was "locked in the zone" -- that place every batter wants to go. The Sharks shortstop managed to stay there long enough this season to earn the Pacific AA Outstanding Hitter Award for 1961.
He assaulted PCAA pitchers for a .359 batting average, 185 hits, 10 home runs and 109 RBIs while scoring 100 times.
This weekend the SBWA will host its annual awards dinner and all of the major winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season. |  | Thursday, October 5th, 1961: Vargas Selected PAA's Best Batter This season Carlos Vargas bombed, battered and bruised just about every Pioneer AA pitcher on his way to the 1961 Outstanding Hitter Award.
The unstoppable Helena left fielder finished with a .325 batting average and .410 on-base percentage. He delivered 174 hits, 48 doubles, 5 triples, 15 home runs and 78 RBIs while scoring 102 runs.
For being named the PAA's best batter Vargas will be honored at the SION Baseball Writers awards banquet this weekend. |  | Wednesday, October 4th, 1961: Las Vegas Wins PCAA Outstanding Pitcher Award The Pacific AA named the winner of the 1961 Pacific AA Outstanding Pitcher Award. It went to Scott Bennett of Las Vegas Sharks for his spectacular season.
With a record of 28-9, Bennett was certainly a worthy winner. He made 60 starts and rang up 397.2 innings, 336 strikeouts and a 2.47 ERA.
This weekend Bennett will be honored by the SION Baseball Writers Association at its annual awards dinner. | | | | |
